News: Fit Foodies Everyone has heard the news that this generation is less fit and trim than any other — so let’s help prevent bad habits in our littlest consumers now! Make sure to respond to Karen Marinoff to be included. You can be as involved in this project as you wish. Whether it be as minimally as having one Fit Foodie visit from a volunteer reader, or you embrace the whole program is your choice. Please join in this pilot project of NAEYC Southern Affiliate (South Jersey). We hope to enlist 25 - 30 pre-school programs and registered family childcare facilities. We will pair each program up with a practicing early childhood professional or a pre-service student from a local college or university. You and the “visitor” have the option to continue the relationship periodically during the year. Your class will be visited for a story time and movement activity. After the story, the children will be invited to join the Fit Foodies Fan Club and will get a membership card to take home. On the membership card, parents will be directed to our website that will list:
Each participating class will receive a book bag with:
Each participating class will be asked to share:
We will put your ideas together by early spring. The staff from your school will be invited to “The Fun Fit Foodies” expo at Camden County College on April 24, 2012 from 6 - 8:30 PM. (Come early for some healthy snacks for adults! Registration begins at 5:30 PM) The expo will feature artwork ideas from food related books, snack ideas developed by some of our 30 participating classrooms, hands on games you can do in your classroom as well as a short keynote speaker to kick off this Pep Rally celebrating good food choices and more moving for fit kids! Here are some ideas to start you off:
